Autism Panel To Meet At Library
In conjunction with Salina Reads, a community-wide reading event, Salina Public Library will have a panel on autism at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Prescott Room. Autism is explored in the Salina Reads selection “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” by Mark Haddon.
The autism panel will consist of Amber Dennett, mother of autistic children; Sheila Mortimer, USD 305’s autism consultant; and Stacy Ash, Communities in Schools site coordinator at Lakewood Middle School. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about autism.
During the months of September and October, the library is encouraging the public to read “Curious Incident.” The story is told from the perspective of an autistic teen. The reader is taken into Christopher’s world as he investigates the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog. The book was selected by a committee of library staff and community members.
