Otakats Event to Combine Anime, Social Media
The discussion of social media will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, in the College Center Conference Room on the K-State Salina campus and will be followed by the film screening. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by FUNimation Entertainment.
“Summer Wars” takes place in a not-so-distant future when everyone uses a virtual network, OZ, for everything from playing games to paying bills and, in the case of some high-ranking public officials, controlling the world’s infrastructure. When OZ is attacked by an artificial intelligence, Kenji, Natsuki, and Natsuki’s family must fight a virtual war to save the real world.
Panelists are Natalie Blair, director of public relations; Bill Genereux, associate professor of digital media; and Joel Matthews, instructor of psychology.
The event is part of Otakats’ Otafest.
“Otafest is a week of events that allow us to share our enthusiasm for anime with the campus. This is the second year our club has held this week of events and it is definitely becoming something that we are all looking forward to,” said Ashley Flowers, senior in technology management and vice president of Otakats, Easton.
