Penguin Day & Overnight Camps
Rolling Hills Zoo is hosting spring and summer activities for kids to coincide with the new traveling exhibit, Penguin Landing. These activities include Saturday morning Penguin Day Camps for 1st through 5th graders, and an Overnight Experience for children 8 to 13 years of age.
The penguin day camps will be held on April 27th, May 18th, June 15th, and July 20th, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Penguin campers will travel around the world stopping at a new country each of the four Saturdays to learn more about that country’s species of penguins. Participants will learn through hands- on activities, games, and live animal interactions about the penguins and will also receive a snack and get to make a craft to take home after visiting the penguin exhibit. 1st through 5th graders can sign up for one or all four sessions. Camp tuition is $13.50 for Rolling Hills Zoo members and $15.00 for non-members.
“Penguin Dreams” is the overnight camp for boys-only and girls-only, sponsored by Chili’s Grill & Bar of Salina. The first overnight camp for kids aged 8 to 13 will be held Friday, May 3rd for boys and Saturday, May 4th for girls. Campers will learn how Emperor penguins survive the harsh Antarctic weather while other penguins enjoy the warm tropics of the southern hemisphere. Overnight campers will also have dinner provided by Chili’s, make and take home a penguin-themed craft, and experience an after-dark tour of the wildlife museum and zoo, complete with a souvenir flashlight. A bedtime movie with popcorn will be followed by an early morning breakfast and tram ride through the zoo. Penguin Dreams starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:00 a.m. the next morning.
Overnight Camp tuition is $31.50 for Zoo members and $35.00 for non-members. Later dates for the overnight are July 26th and September 20th for boys, and July 27th and September 21st for girls.
