Summer Reading Activities Continue In July
Salina Public Library’s Summer Reading Programs are off to a great start this year. There are still plenty of activities, drawings, parties and reading ahead in July. Sign up at the library, 301 W. Elm, or online at www.salinapubliclibrary.org by July 24 for teens and children and July 15 for adults.
Children can attend Draw with Kristi at 3 p.m. July 2, Sharpie Tie-Dye at 3 p.m. July 16, Dinosaur Party at 3 p.m. July 10 and much more. Some programs have age restrictions and require registration. Come to the library or visit www.salinapubliclibrary.org for a full schedule.
The month rounds up with parties from 4-7:30 p.m. July 25 and 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. July 26. There will be games, entertainment and pizza. Children can pick up tickets for a party July 1-24. Teen readers are entered in weekly drawings and have a chance to win the grand prize of a $250 Salina Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificate.
For adults, there are weekly drawings for chamber gift certificates, plus more chances to win with the Guess How Many game. To go along with the adult summer theme, Groundbreaking Reads, Jason Graves, K-State extension agent, will give the presentation Get the Dirt on Soil on July 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Prescott Room.
To end the summer, adults can enjoy music by harpist RoJean Loucks, hors d’hoeuvres and drawings for prizes, including two Kindles, at a come-and-go open house from 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 2. Tickets for the open house can be picked up July 15-25 at the Information Services Desk.
All summer reading participants have the chance to show off their reading prowess with an “I’m a Reading Champion” yard sign. Children must meet their reading goal, teens must log either 100 pages or an hour of reading, and adults must log five books. Signs will be given to the first 1,200 participants to meet the requirements and to claim their signs at the library.
